Alicia Story
Biography
Alicia Menora Story is a young butterfly specialist who has rapidly established herself as one of the most promising swimmers on the Cook Islands national team. Competing primarily in butterfly events alongside freestyle and individual medley, she has shown a natural aptitude for the butterfly stroke that has already placed her among the top performers in the Oceania region for her age group.
Story's international career gained traction at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games in Palau, where she competed as a fifteen-year-old against the best of the Pacific. She won a bronze medal in the 200m butterfly and qualified for the 400m freestyle final, finishing fifth. Competing alongside more experienced athletes from Australia and New Zealand, she demonstrated the mental strength and technical quality that would define her breakthrough season the following year.
In April 2026 she set a new Cook Islands national record in the 100m butterfly (1:04.08). The following month, at the 2026 14th Oceania Swimming Championships in Fiji, she delivered the standout performance of her young career: a bronze medal and new national record in the Women's 200m Butterfly with a time of 2:27.94. She also competed in the 100m butterfly final, finishing eighth in 1:05.52.
"I was just focusing on my technique, trying to keep my hips up, and trying to reach my arms out forward like my coach said," Story reflected after the medal race. "Representing my nation means everything to me, especially coming to a competition with these big countries like Australia and New Zealand, and to be able to medal for my country — hopefully I made them proud tonight with that race."
Alicia Story holds Cook Islands national records in both the 100m and 200m butterfly. At an age when many swimmers are still developing their international experience, she has already produced championship-level results against the best Oceania has to offer, and her trajectory suggests she will be a fixture on the Cook Islands team for many years to come.
